Land-based Recirculation Aquaculture Technology

After years of precipitation and accumulation of water treatment technology, CIMC Fishery has raised an innovative integrated aquaculture solution - Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) on the basis of research on aquaculture system technology and validation of aquaculture trials, aiming to solve the problems in the core links of the fishery industry.


All links of the aquaculture system are analyzed and integrated comprehensively through this technology, achieving precise matching and efficient closed-loop operation among various devices. All links ranging from the source water to the effluent are optimized to the maximum with a stable dissolved oxygen level in the system and low-level harmful substances in the water, thereby guaranteeing high-quality and stable water quality in the aquaculture pond. The technology has been applied in CIMC Fishery Da’ao Aquaculture Demonstration Base, contributing to the continuous improvement of smart aquaculture layout in the fishery industry.


Land-based Recirculation Aquaculture Technology
The RAS reduces dependency on water quantity and quality, while improving the quality of aquaculture water. It not only enhances water quality and increases income but also achieves green and low-carbon aquaculture of aquatic products, contributing to the green and healthy development of the fishery industry and country’s dual carbon goals.
  • Internal Recirculation
    The internal recirculation is configured with a dual-way catch basin to automatically transfer the less polluted effluent (“upper water”) in an aquaculture pond to AIO circulating water treatment module for physical filtration and biological purification which remove suspended solids and hazardous substances, and then perform high-efficiency oxygenation and disinfection, aiming to meet requirements for water quality of aquaculture. The processed water is recycled back to the aquaculture pond, which realizes the recycling of water. The internal circulating saves water resources, while maintaining stable water quality, thereby providing a high-quality green growth environment for aquatic products.
  • External Recirculation
    The rotational flow device at the bottom of the pond collects the lower water of solid waste and transfers it to the solids-liquid separation module of the effluent treatment module through external recirculation. The upper water is discharged or recycled by removing organic matters and ammonia nitrogen, ensuring that the water quality meets the standard. The sediment can be concentrated to function as an organic fertilizer.
    The source water treatment module functions to treat the effluent and supplementary water, aiming to meet the standard of aquaculture water quality, realize recycling, and ensure a complete cycle of the water system.

CIMC Fishery applies a complete set of independently developed RAS equipment, including AGV-based smart feeding device, distributed intelligent feeding device, and mobile vacuum fish suction pump in its land-based industrial farms, aiming to address technical challenges of feeding, harvesting and other key operation processes having higher dependence on manpower and achieve a equipment-based aquaculture system.


Intelligentization of Digital Technology

CIMC Fishery has leveraged IoT, cloud computing, AI and other cutting-edge technologies to establish a secure, efficient, and convenient Intelligent Management Platform of Smart Fishery. Through software development and hardware system integration, we have integrated information from various sources including facilities, equipment, inputs, and personnel, recording the complete paths of data flow, material flow, and fund flow.

This platform has achieved continuous monitoring of meteorological environment, device operation, as well as road and water surface conditions within the aquafarm. It is able to automatically push tasks including device inspection, aquaculture patrol, and sample testing, perform statistical analysis on water quality indicators, device usage as well as electricity and gas consumption, automatically complete production operations such as feeding, fish harvesting, and water treatment, and proactively alert abnormalities.

Through the platform, we are capable of obtaining accurate data of aquaculture process, and adjust aquaculture plans and material supplies in time, effectively decreasing production accidents, reducing labor-intensive operation costs in both manpower and time, and enhancing the efficiency of aquaculture management.





Standardization of Aquaculture Management

We have established scientific standards and technical operating procedures from fry release, feed selection to supporting aquaculture technologies, ensuring consistent and controllable technical essentials in fry mark, temporary rearing by boxes, adult fish aquaculture and other links. Through accumulated experience in long-term aquaculture practices, we have achieved a standardized aquaculture management with a high-stability and strong-replicability mode.

The resource-based aquaculture management is achieved by green ecological water circulation, comprehensive effluent management, and recycled solid waste.





Customization of Aquaculture Solutions

Based on the integrated concept of “Container+”, we will increase the adaptability to a variety of traditional fishpond surroundings, and conduct the evaluation and design planning of high-density aquaculture schemes on runways, ponds, and water treatment devices according to the terrain, precisely developing targeted modernized transformation and implementation schemes tailored to current soil and water environments. By highly intensive construction, the occupancy of resources of aquaculture areas is significantly reduced while land use efficiency per unit area is enhanced. It is crucial for achieving profitable production with effective pond management adaptive to terrains.


By RAS and rich water treatment expertise, we achieve purification of aquaculture water at its source, creating a conducive water environment for growth of aquatic products. In addition, by standardized aquaculture management practices, we can timely adjust the aquaculture modes and management standards in response to changes in the aquaculture environment, and deal with unforeseen events to improve the quality and safety of aquaculture products.


Moreover, water resource pollution has become an urgent challenge in agricultural production. We have conducted comprehensive analysis and integration and maximized optimization of all links of the aquaculture system, ranging from source water to effluent, ensuring stable and high-quality water in aquaculture ponds. The green circular agriculture model featuring “aquaculture feces-organic fertilizer-crop-feed-aquaculture” supports sustainable, circular, zero-emission, and low-carbon ecological practices, promoting green ecological aquaculture and ecosystem protection.
